The Akiles DuoMac 541 is a high quality combination binding system that is designed for binding documents spiral coil.

The DuoMac 541 is the only machine of its kind. It includes a unique design that allows users to punch both a 5:1 pitch hole pattern for spiral coil binding and a 4:1 pitch hole pattern for spiral coil binding.

Normally, you would have to use two different binding machines to do the same tasks as the DuoMac 541. This means that the DuoMac 541 can save you space, time and money.

Strengths / Features:

The DuoMac541 is capable of binding documents with both 4:1 and 5:1 pitch spiral coil. Although there are a large number of 4:1 pitch coil binding machines available on the market there are very few machines capable of binding documents with 5:1 pitch coil. With this machine, you can choose the pitch of coil that you want to use depending on the size of your document or the look that you prefer.

Both punching throats on the 541 Duomac include five disengageable punching pins. Using these punching pins it is possible to use this machine with all of the most common sizes of paper. The DuoMac 541 also includes a high quality pair of spiral coil crimping pliers to help you finish your documents. These pliers are used to cut and crimp the ends of your bound document so that the spiral coil does not spin back off the edge of your book.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

The DuoMac 541 is built on the same platform as all of the other machines in the Akiles Duo Mac line of binding machines. This means that it includes a wire closer. However, the wire closer is essentially useless on this machine. Wire is not available in either 4:1 or 5:1 spacing. This simply means that you will need to ignore the closer or use it with documents that are punched on another machine.

Oddly enough, the DuoMac 541 includes a wire closer that you don't need and is missing a spiral coil inserter that would be really handy. Akiles suggests that you purchase this machine with a Roll @ Coil modular coil inserter. This is an excellent idea. Without a coil inserter you will end up having to spin all of the spines onto the edge of your document by hand.

This machine can bind documents with both 4:1 pitch and 5:1 pitch spiral coil. However, you are still limited to the supplies that are available for each pitch. Four to one pitch coils are available in a huge variety of sizes and colors. However, five to one pitch coils are only available in sizes up to 25mm. Five to one pitch coils also tend to be slightly more expensive and a little bit harder to find than their four to one pitch counterparts.

Although this machine is extremely well built, it is still a manual binding machine. Organizations who need to bind large numbers of documents or extremely large documents will most likely find the manual nature of this machine is fairly tedious. As a general rule, the DuoMac 541 is a good fit for companies that need to bind up to fifty documents per week. Companies that bind more than this may want to investigate a larger electric binding system.

No, according to a new ChangeWave survey of 3,597 consumers, which finds the battle for smart phone supremacy has transformed into a two-horse race between Research-in-Motion's (RIMM) BlackBerry and the Apple iPhone.

RIM dominates current smart phone sales among consumers, but the Apple iPhone shows tremendous momentum going forward. At the same time, Palm (PALM) and its Treo continue to struggle through extremely hard times.

RIM Rules Current Market, But Apple Is Gaining

RIM (42%; down 1-pt) maintains its towering lead in current smart phone market share, even as number two Palm (16%; down 2-pts) continues its two year losing streak. This was the seventh-consecutive ChangeWave survey in which Palm's market share has dropped.

Now within striking distance of Palm, the Apple iPhone (9%) continues to score exceptional growth in the smart phone market. Customer satisfaction ratings point out why. Smart Phone Reviews

If customer satisfaction is a good indicator of future growth, Apple occupies the sweet spot. An extraordinary four-in-five iPhone owners (79%) report they're Very Satisfied with their iPhone ' a significant lead over number two RIM (54%) and far ahead of all other major manufacturers.

Mobile OS - The Androids Are Coming?
We also asked respondents which mobile operating system they'd like to have on the phone they plan on buying. As expected, the consumer market is dominated by the popular RIM and Apple smartphone operating systems.

Note that the Google Android OS isn't being offered yet to the general public, and it's still too early to gauge its full impact. However, the survey sheds initial light on the smart phone market potential for the Android.

While just 2% of respondents say they're Very Likely to use the Android operating system, another 15% say they're Somewhat Likely.

"These numbers do show some consumer interest in the Android Operating System," says Tobin Smith, founder of ChangeWave Research and editor of ChangeWave Investing. "But based on the ultra-competitive battle between RIM and Apple, there's little likelihood of the Android gaining traction on either one's OS. They're sucking up all the oxygen in this market."

Another Two-Way War - But Among Service Providers
Beyond the RIM vs. Apple battle there is another two-sided war ' this time among cellular service providers ' with Verizon (VZ) (31%; up 1-pt) maintaining a slim lead over AT&T (T) (29%; up 1-pt) in current market share.

But over the next 90 days, AT&T (28%; up 3-pts) appears all set to get a boost based on Apple's recent well received announcements. As Apple planned buying increases, so does AT&T's because of their exclusive carrier agreement with Apple.

There's been a lot of speculation as to what the Sony Ericsson Paris actually is, but what's known for definite is that it is going to be Sony Ericsson uber-killer-mega-hero phone for 2008. Final specs are, it's fair to say, a bit thin on the ground, but there have been persistent rumours from people who state they've tested it. Specifically, they say it's a slider with a touchscreen and a QWERTY keypad, has got a 40x480 VGA screen, has a 5 megapixel camera, has built-in GPS, and is based around the newest Symbian interface, UIQ3.3. Assuming all that is true, it seems likely that what we're soon to be seeing is the next phone in near-legendary 'P-series' of Sony Ericsson smartphones, that began waaaaaaaaaaaay back when, with the P800.

If that's true, it means that what it'll actually be, on release, is the Sony Ericsson P5. Given that I have a Sony Ericsson P1 now, and have been waiting to hear about the P5 since last November, you may well understand why I'm... a tad excited!

Now, I admit it's a bit silly getting so excited over a mobile phone that hasn't even been officially announced yet, let alone released, but it really does look like it could be the coolest phone I've ever seen. That list of features is suitably stunning (and the newest version of UIQ is just amazing), and it looks the business. Look around the edges of the phone, and you'll se metal accents, and metal edging, which seems to be in a muted, menacing gunmetal colour.
Oh, but it won't be cheap. I can guarantee that, right now. Sure, there are loads of great mobile phone deals out there, but this, folks, won't be one of them, because I can just about guarantee it will cost a fortune. And believe me, it'll be worth every single penny, because it looks like a serious contender for best mobile phone ever. But I'll tell you this, it's immediately, blatantly obvious what the Sony Ericsson Paris (or the P5, if you prefer) is designed to do. Look at the touchscreen interface (granted the P-series phones have had touchscreens for the last 5 years, but this is the first one optimised for finger touch). Look at the metal accents round the edge. Look at the suitably shiny screen. I'll tell you what they're doing... they're going after the O2-exclusive iPhone, that's what. On the strength of what we know so far... well, they may well do it, too!
