The Volvo XC70 Cross Country is coming out with greatly improved drivability, luxury and safety for 2008. Volvo has provided the model a sophisticated redesign to stand out in the crowd of the crossover segment. It comes with the same Ford Motor Co. EUCD platform like that of S80 sedan and Land Rover LR2.
The 2008 XC70 gained additional two inches in wheelbase and more than four inches in length compared from its predecessor.
The power comes from its standard gearbox of six-speed automatic, upgraded from five-speed of the previous model. Though it lost the turbo, the engine was able to gain cylinder.
The interior is made more refined, considering the big increase in technical gadgets added in to the previous standard Volvo auto parts.
Volvo has long been known providing safety. And the 2008 XC70 model boasts of the automaker's world-renowned safety features which includes an adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot warning system, a drowsy-driver alert and a collision warning system with automatic braking. They have even provided it with safety cage that surrounds the occupants through the use of four kinds of high-strength steel.
Being part of the Ford group, Volvo made the most of its parts-bin tie. They have borrowed the Hill Descent Control from Land Rover.
Volvo has also provided combinations for more excellent performance. One of which is the standard Haldex all-wheel drive and the standard Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, working together to get an efficient grip on logging-road surfaces. The front MacPherson struts with a multilink rear suspension helps in keeping a luxurious on-road driving condition.
The look is well emphasized by the well defined shoulders. And, the tailgate glass was turned a bit lowered down than the side glass.
Inside the passengers' cabin, upgrades have also been well done. The rear seats are convertible to a child-bolstered from an adult size seat. Along with it, the seat belt scrolling and airbag curtain deployments subsequently change. In addition, there are aluminum alloy rails with movable anchors provided in the cargo area.
Because of the euro vs. dollar has recently gotten strong, Volvo made some of the standard safety features optional. However, the 2008 Volvo XC70 received an increase in weight and became bigger, of which resulted in giving up 15 mpg.

Volvo Cars of North America CEO Anne Belec added, "The XC70 segment dynamic is changing with more crossovers and more players coming in. We're playing it conservatively."
